Artificial Grass for Hillside Homes
Artificial grass in El Dorado Hills is mostly hillside work. El Dorado Hills, just east of Folsom in El Dorado County, sits at about 768 feet and was laid out starting in the early 1960s as a master-planned community of residential villages with open space between them, designed by architect Victor Gruen for developer Allan Lindsey. Later villages and the Serrano community followed. Many lots are terraced or sloped, and most are in neighborhoods with architectural rules.
Slopes and drainage
El Dorado Hills averages about 26.5 inches of precipitation a year, more than the valley floor. On terraced backyards, water moves fast and collects at walls. We shape the base to the grade, anchor turf closely on slopes, and add drain lines behind walls and in enclosed terraces so water does not pool.
HOA review
With so many villages and associations, most projects need approval. California Civil Code Section 4735 bars HOAs from prohibiting artificial turf, but they can review color, product and layout. We provide data sheets, samples, a site plan and photos.
A growing community
El Dorado Hills grew from 42,108 residents in 2010 to 50,547 in 2020, with 18,249 housing units. In 2010, about 84.7% of occupied homes were owner-occupied. Owners here often add putting greens, pool surrounds and play areas.
Summer heat
July highs average about 94 degrees. Synthetic grass in full sun gets much hotter than that, so we plan shade over play and pet areas and suggest lighter turf for sunny slopes.
Popular projects
- Terraced backyard lawns
- Putting greens with natural break
- Pool and patio turf
- Front lawns that pass HOA review
Pricing
National published ranges put installed artificial grass at about $6 to $22 per square foot and backyard putting greens around $3,500 to $9,000. Slopes and drain lines add cost; your written estimate lists each item.
Village variety
The original villages, such as Ridgeview, Park, Saint Andrews, Crown and Governors, have older homes and mature landscaping; later villages and Serrano have newer homes, larger lots and more slope. We adjust the approach: tree and root care in older villages, grading and retaining-wall drainage in newer hillside ones.
Timeline
Most projects take two to four days, depending on slope and access. We share the schedule with your HOA if needed.
Lake breeze and wildfire awareness
El Dorado Hills borders Folsom Lake and open space. Turf replaces a lawn that would otherwise dry out, but it can melt from embers. We keep it away from fire pits and grills.

Will my El Dorado Hills HOA approve turf?
Associations can review the design but cannot prohibit artificial turf under California law. We prepare the materials.
Can you build a putting green on a slope?
Yes. Gentle slope adds break; we level the steepest parts so putts still roll true.

Yes. Travel is included in the written quote.
Is artificial grass a fire risk?
Turf does not burn like dry grass, but embers can melt it. We keep it away from fire pits and grills.
