Bringing an Older Synthetic Lawn Back
Turf repair and refresh is for artificial grass that has started to look worn or come apart: seams opening, edges lifting at the curb, low spots that puddle in winter, blades flattened along the path to the back gate, or a dog area that smells no matter how often you hose it. Many of the lawns we fix in Roseville were installed by someone else, and most of their problems start in the base.
What usually goes wrong
- Seams that were taped but never glued and pinned
- Edges fastened too far apart, so they curl in summer heat
- A base laid on uncompacted soil or over old sod, which settles into dips
- No drainage path on a hardpan lot, so water sits under the turf all winter
- Infill that has washed out of traffic areas, letting blades lie flat
- Melt streaks from sunlight reflected off energy-efficient windows
Repair, refresh or replace
Angi's 2026 data puts turf repairs and replacement at roughly $2 to $10 per square foot. A few seams and edges are a quick fix. Matted turf often comes back with a power brush and fresh infill, which Angi lists at about $0.30 to $1.75 per pound. When the base has failed in many places, the turf is past its life, or a pet area has soaked odor into the base, replacing that section on a corrected base is usually better value.
Fixing winter puddles
Puddles on artificial grass almost always mean the water cannot get out from underneath. We peel back the turf, find the low spot or blocked path, regrade, and where needed add a drain line or gravel outlet. Then we compact new base rock and relay the turf.
Odor in pet areas
When rinsing and enzyme cleaners stop working, urine has usually saturated the base. We lift the turf, remove the contaminated base and infill, rebuild with a properly sloped base, and reinstall with odor-control infill.
Reflected-sun damage
Low-E windows can concentrate sunlight onto turf and melt narrow streaks into it. We patch the damage and suggest a screen, film or plant that breaks up the reflection so it does not happen again.
Annual tune-ups
A yearly visit catches problems early: a seam starting to lift, an edge coming loose, infill thinning on the path to the gate. Fixr lists a typical maintenance visit at about $150 to $200. We brush, re-fasten and top up infill where needed, and let you know if anything underneath needs attention.

Turf Repair & Refresh Questions
Can you fix artificial grass another company installed?
Yes. Much of our repair work is on lawns installed by others. We match turf as closely as possible for patches and correct the base underneath.
Why does my artificial grass puddle in winter?
Usually water cannot get out from under it, often because of hardpan soil with no drainage path. We regrade and add an outlet.
How do I get rid of pet odor in my turf?
Rinse often and use an enzyme cleaner. If the smell stays, the base is holding urine and needs to be replaced under the pet area.
Is a refresh cheaper than replacement?
Usually. A power brush and new infill cost far less than new turf, and can bring back matted areas if the turf itself is still in good shape.
